PAT Educator Job Description

Definition:

Provide direct educational service to families enrolled in the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program regarding parenting and child development following the Parents as Teachers National Program Curriculum.  Service area is Ringgold County.

Reports to:

PAT Coordinator, Ringgold County Public Health

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s or four-year degree in early childhood, education, health, or related field preferred. Two-year degree or 60 college hours in early childhood or a related field acceptable. Supervised experience working with young children and/or parents is also preferred.

Environment:

Educator will provide services to families in various environments, including individual homes, agency, or community settings, to achieve identified outcomes.  Reliable transportation will be a must.  Mileage will be reimbursed per the rate determined by the Ringgold County Board of Health.  Transportation of clients and families will not be allowed.

Ages Served:

Families with one or more children ages prenatal through three years of age.

Nature and Scope:

  • Educator must be certified through the National Parents as Teachers Foundational training and maintain the requirements of that certification.
  • Must maintain current first aid/CPR certification.
  • Flexible schedule with occasional evenings and weekends required.
  • Must possess high ethical standards, good communication and organization skills, prove adaptable to a variety of situations, remain nonjudgmental, tactful, assertive, and demonstrate both cultural competence and caring.
  • Will schedule, prepare, plan, conduct, and document visits and other required forms completed with enrolled families.  Basic computer skills are required.
  • Attend staff meetings, in state and out of state trainings, and ongoing continuing education as required.
  • Will assist to organize and conduct group parent meetings for PAT families as per the State of Iowa Credentialing and National Parents as Teachers curriculum.
  • Must be able to independently function and request assistance appropriately and as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be capable of prolonged standing and occasional lifting of materials and children up to 45 pounds.  Must be able to tolerate extremes of hot and cold and occasionally, unsuitable home conditions, i.e. exposure to filth, pets, vermin, and insects.
