The Live Healthy Iowa 5K Run/Walk event will be held in Mount Ayr on Saturday, April 12. Nine other communities around the state have been chosen to host their own LHI 5K event on the same day. Mount Ayr will be the only host site within a 75-mile area ins southwest Iowa. The 5K will start at 8:00 AM and will be followed by a Kids 1K event.
A local wellness coalition is working on plans to give participants more than their average 5K experience. They want it to be an event that challenges beginning runners and walkers as well as seasoned runners. There will be post-race festivities, food and an awards ceremony immediately following. The state-wide 5K events follow the LHI 10-Week Wellness Challenge which started on January 27. The Challenge runs from January 27 through April 4. Participants in the Challenge can received a $10 discount on entry to the LHI 5K.
